Story
As the Mobile Supervisor at Best Buy, I held a pivotal role in the efficient functioning of the mobile department and its team. My responsibilities extended to overseeing the day-to-day operations, ensuring that customers received top-notch service while assisting them in selecting new phones and plans. Beyond the mobile department, I played a crucial part in event planning for the entire store. This included coordinating monthly supervisor meetings to foster communication and collaboration within the team, as well as organizing the annual end-of-year holiday party to celebrate our collective achievements. Additionally, I actively participated in community initiatives, such as Moncton Headstart's Toyland, where we provided toys for families facing financial challenges.
I completed two years of paramedic school at Oulton College, where I delved into subjects such as human anatomy, pathology, pharmacology, and various paramedical procedures. I engaged in practical experience through two challenging practicums—one with Nova Scotia EHS in Amherst, NS, and another with Ambulance NB in Cap Pele, NB. Despite facing unforeseen family issues that led to my departure from the program before completion, the experience strengthened me personally. Although I didn't finish the program, the knowledge and resilience gained have contributed significantly to my personal growth.
After a hiatus, I decided to give school another shot, drawing inspiration from my successful stint in sales. Believing that marketing was the next logical step, enrolled in NBCC's business administration in the marketing program. While diving into the world of business administration, tackling subjects like financial math, accounting, and management, it quickly became evident that marketing was my true passion. The program, with its emphasis on traditional marketing, opened my eyes to diverse strategies and tactics, enriching my educational journey and personally fulfilling.
During my time at school, I actively participated in student government as a class representative, contributing to the planning and execution of numerous events over a span of two years. Despite an unsuccessful bid for the position of VP of Communications, where I narrowly missed victory by just 11 votes, I remained undeterred. This period allowed me to broaden my horizons, delving into small marketing projects. One notable undertaking was conducting market research for BarrMart, a possible local grocer looking to open a small community grocery store near Universite du Moncton.
Embarking on a major Riverview Arts Centre (RAC) marketing project was a dynamic and immersive experience. As part of a dedicated team, our primary objective was to conduct in-depth market research on existing RAC members, unravelling the intricacies of their consumption habits and preferences. The challenge was gathering data and deciphering the type of content that would resonate with the theatre's audience. This involved intricate planning, creative brainstorming, and strategic thinking. The culmination of our efforts was a compelling presentation where we shared our findings and proposed campaign strategies with the theatre's executive director, aiming to enhance the overall experience for RAC members and attract new audiences.
In the culminating phase of the program, I was fortunate to secure a practicum at the theatre, which provided me with hands-on experience in the heart of the action. I actively contributed to the theatre's social media presence during this period, leveraging my marketing knowledge to engage and connect with the audience. Additionally, I played a pivotal role in gathering valuable feedback by crafting a survey for visitors at the Moncton Market, aiding in the continuous improvement of the theatre's offerings. Beyond the digital realm, I immersed myself in the multifaceted functions of the theatre, lending a helping hand in the seamless execution of various events.
After three determined attempts, I proudly graduated in June 2023. Eager to apply my skills, I spent the summer as a theatre marketing coordinator. The experience underscored the importance of digital marketing, a facet I found lacking in my previous program at NBCC. Recognizing the growing significance of digital content, especially in the dynamic marketing field, I decided to return to Best Buy and simultaneously enroll in the NSCC digital marketing program. This choice stemmed from my desire to augment my expertise and stay ahead in an industry where leveraging digital platforms had become commonplace, as evident in my work at the theatre.
